this was a great activity for my 3 and 1/2 year old son who's currently obsessed with the solar system. It was enjoyable for his nine-year-old sister and her best friend as well.my suggestion would be get their significantly earlier than your Showtime if you do not buy tickets in advance and you are there on a weekend or School holiday because we got there 20 minutes prior to show time and our show was sold out. We used an hour wait to look through the Museum in the mansion can my kids really enjoyed all of the cool sea creatures and shells and exotic birds and butterflies. I wish they had a little bit more interactive or can someone displays in the science area about the solar system though. the planetarium was really nice. The show was very informative and interesting and Visually impressive. All of us really enjoyed it.

On 12/27/19 visited the Vanderbilt Mansion Our tour guide Beverly did an incredible job telling the history of William K. Vanderbilt ll. She guided the group through the beauty of the mansion while telling the story of how it all began. She unfolded facts of Vanderbilt’s life as she guided us through each room describing how each room/section of the mansion was built. The architecture is off-the-charts beauty. Learning about Vanderbilt’s extraordinary, extravagant, and privileged life gave lots of enjoyment. Loved it.   Interesting, enjoyable, and look forward to doing it again.  Thank you Beverly. We’ll be back to walk through the other homes on the property.

Last week, I attended the Halloween Mansion tour at the Vanderbilt Museum in Centerport. Each room was decorated and had one or two stuffed figures with a story to tell. Near each figure was a poem describing the creature and giving background information. There was also a Vanderbilt employee in costume in each room to tell us about the room we were in. My group had 20 people and it was difficult to get close enough to read some of the poems before we were moved to the next room. It would have been better if the person assigned to each room read the poem aloud so we would all have the information at the same time. This would have added to my enjoyment of what I was seeing. Otherwise, it was a fun event.

My favorite place to visit/field trip since I am a child. Years ago I brought my husband who loves both astronomy and history and he fell in love with it as well. Now we cannot wait to bring our baby as soon as possible. A wonderful place of both learning and entertainment which is rare these days. The culture is amazing the views are amazing, just overall one of THE BEST places to visit on Long Island. See for yourself!

A lot of amazing history here on the Vanderbilts. The tour guide, Dale, has unbelievable knowledge about the place and the people who built it. I was astonished by the collection of taxidermied animals that this family collected and by the way the family lived. I highly recommend this place.

Beautiful grounds. Went to the sensory garden and then the planetarium! Great kids show! Then had lunch at one of the many picnic tables with a beautiful view ... followed by an educational visit to the museum! Must see for sure !! Enjoyable for children and adults! Went to the planetarium last week for the 1st time. The show itself was really nice just wish it was a bit longer & also that they had more seating options in the planetarium waiting area outside of the theatre. A heads up: It's also a good idea to wear comfortable shoes as you have to walk to the different locations.

I hadn't been to the museum since first grade. I vaguely remembered the Planetarium. But there is so much more to this place then that. The mansion is spectacular. It gives you a really good perspective of who WKV was and just how important he was to New York and Long Island. The Eagles Nest offers an amazing view of Asharoken and Eaton's Neck. From Northport, you can see it across the bay. The price is right and the experience is incredible. Unfortunately the Marine Museum and Carriage House were closed to the public. Hopefully they will be open next time around.

We attended September 14th Liverpool Shuffle and had a great time! We were visiting Long Island from Pennsylvania and decided to take a detour to see the show. At first, we were disappointed the concert was moved from the courtyard to the planetarium, but that's before we saw the great light show you guys put on for us. We had a great time! The Lobster Fest was a wonderful night!! The setting is beautiful - overlooking Northport Harbor. The food was excellent - from Sangria 71. Great gift baskets and raffles. Lots of dancing! I will definitely attend next year to support this important institution!

I went to the Pink Floyd laser show, and it was fun. I was hesitant at the beginning because I thought it was going to be a wild room (lol) but it was not. People were engaged. The only flaw I noticed was the sound system. I would of enjoy better if it the music was louder with better quality. It should of sound like when you go out to a nightclub. This is why I cannot give 5 stars.

I enjoyed the beautiful view of the Sound from the upper level of the home. The guide was very knowledgeable and friendly. I was touched by the personal stories of tragedy of the family, and inspired how a 16 year old boy bought a boat for 100 dollars to ferry people from Staten Island to Manhattan. He started from humble beginnings to launch this family. It is wonderful to have this museum as a member of the Centerport Community.

This was my very first visit to Vanderbilt Museum and i was very impressed with the architecture and the incredible views from the mansion. My two year old daughter had a whale of a time romping on the well kept grounds. she was having so much fun that we totally missed the show at the planetarium. I would totally recommend visiting this gem especially in the spring. Bring along picnic basket and prepare to be engrossed in the sights and sounds.

Beautiful ground, rich in history. The mansion tour is a must for history buffs and the newly upgraded planetarium is awesome. Visit your public library for passes if your town have them otherwise the fee is more than fair for what you'll see and experience.

On Tuesday, Dec 27th, we had the opportunity to visit the Vanderbilt Museum at night and experience the lights of the holidays both inside and out. The tour was wonderful. There were numerous docents as we toured, each providing in-depth knowledge about the Vanderbilt family and the mansion's history. As a treat, we were provided with hot chocolate and cookies. My husband and I look forward to returning in the spring.

To all that is reading many years ago I visited the Vanderbilt Museum I remembered a downstairs room with a bear standing in the corner it was in the memorial wing I brought my daughter there today and the tour guide laughed at me told me I was crazy there was no such a room whatever happened to this room that they don't know about.

Everything about it was awesome. My boyfriends 6 year old daughter had an incredible time. Her favorite part,besides the planetarium, the Lego display (we are a Lego nerd family), she loved walking around to the grounds and of course, she couldn't decide which of the museums was her favorite. It was more enjoyable taking a random family trip, then any of the school field trip visits. You can take your time and absorb it all.

Let me begin by saying that I have been to many historical homes and museums, and was quite looking forward to taking the ride down from CT to finally take this landmark in. We were greeted at the door by a cashier who stated that all tours were "sold out" at 2 pm. We had called ahead to ask for information regarding this, and never once were told that this was a possibility. What's more, the gift shop was also closed. On a Sunday over Labor Day Weekend. With the grounds and museum PACKED with people.... All in all, the grounds and museum were ok. The rooms had a musty, moldy smell that I have never experienced on any other historical home tour I've taken before. There were hardly any attendants around to explain the exhibits we were able to see(for a general admittance fee, one could visit many of the animal themed exhibits). The structure itself seemed to be crumbling, in need of repair/cleaning (ie mold on the outside etc..) I'd recommend the Newport mansions to anyone, especially Marble House for anyone looking to get a gist of some Vanderbilt history. Also, the Rockefeller home in Tarrytown has lovely grounds.
