The Suffolk County Vanderbilt Museum Education Department is offering a new crafting workshop, Quilling & Cookies, on Friday, April 25, from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm.
Participants will learn how to create coiled flowers and leaves and make a spring wreath using the ancient paper-shaping method called quilling. For ages 18-plus.
Quilling has been used as a decorative art form for thousands of years and is thought to have originated in China with the invention of paper or in ancient Egypt, where it was used to embellish tombs.
Experience is not necessary. Materials and quilling tool are included. Workshop fee includes admission to the collections. (Mansion tours and planetarium shows are an additional fee.)
Beth Laxer-Limmer, Director of Education, said, “The emergence of spring and the estate’s flower gardens are the inspiration for this crafting workshop for adults.”
