Beginning Saturday, June 2, and throughout the summer, visitors will see the spectacular results of the Suffolk County Vanderbilt Museum’s first Gardeners Showcase.
During the month of May, local nurseries and garden designers used their artistry to transform 10 gardens on the grounds of the William Vanderbilt Estate.
Visitors pay only general admission. There is no additional fee to see the beautiful, renewed gardens. The showcase runs through Sunday, September 30.
Lance Reinheimer, executive director of the Vanderbilt, said “I am grateful for the enthusiastic response from the landscaping and gardening community to volunteer their talents to beautify this historic estate. These floral artisans, as well as our own veteran corps of accomplished volunteer gardeners, have invested their time, labor and resources. Their enhancements will be enjoyed by more than 30,000 visitors this summer. We hope to continue this collaboration for many years.”
The 43-acre waterfront estate of William K. Vanderbilt II (1878-1944), which is listed on the National Register of Historic Places, is one of the last remaining Gold Coast estates on the North Shore of Long Island, and a popular destination for more than 100,000 regional and international travelers each year.
Showcase participants include Gro Girl Horticultural Therapy, Pal-O-Mine Equestrian J-STEP Program, Sacred Gardens, Dina Yando Landscape & Perennial Garden Design / North Service Nursery, Landscapes by Bob Dohne, Inc., Carlstrom Landscapes, Inc., Mossy Pine Garden & Landscape Design, Mother Earth’s Landscape & Nursery, Centerport Garden Club, Joe deGroot Designs, Inc., and Vanderbilt Volunteer Gardeners. Each group is identified by signage at its Garden Showcase site.
