Next from Carriage House Players: ‘Precious Little’

Opens Friday, May 11

The Carriage House Players continue their spring season with Precious Little by Madeline George. The show will open on Friday, May 11, at 8:00 p.m. in the Carriage House Theater at the Vanderbilt Museum. The theater is in the Education Center at the Museum, 180 Little Neck Road, Centerport, N.Y.

Madeleine George’s irreverent and charming new play reveals the beauty and the limits of human language.

Brodie, a gifted linguist, learns unsettling news about the baby she carries. Unable to get comfort from her girlfriend, she finds it in the two least likely sources imaginable: the elderly speaker of a vanishing language…and a gorilla at the zoo.

Other performances: Saturday, May 12; Friday and Saturday, May 18 and 19, at 8:00 p.m., and Sunday, May 13 and 20, at 3:00 p.m. Tickets: $20 for adults, $15 seniors and children.

In June, the Carriage House Players will present the drama Lobby Hero by Kenneth Lonergan.

In July and August, Carriage House will present the 2018 Summer Shakespeare Festival. A Midsummer Night’s Dream will run June 29 through July 29, and Hamlet will be produced August 5 through September 2

This year’s productions mark the 30th anniversary of this popular theater event. Performances are given outdoors on the permanent stage in the Vanderbilt Mansion courtyard, where the Spanish-Mediterranean architecture offers a charming, timeless backdrop.

Performances are given Wednesday and Friday at 8:00 p.m. and Sunday at 7:00 p.m. (No performances July 4 or 8.) Tickets, at $15, will be available soon on the Vanderbilt website.
