Antonio Masi watercolor of Vanderbilt Mansion bell tower
Gallery North of Setauket sponsored a field trip to the Vanderbilt on June 22 for artists and art lovers. Stephanie Gress, the Museum’s director of curatorial affairs, gave the 35 visitors a tour of the Estate and Mansion. Afterward they sketched, painted and photographed on the Estate grounds.
Accomplished watercolor artist Antonio Masi then gave a plein-air (outdoor) painting demonstration.
Later the artists watched as Masi created a striking painting of the Mansion’s bell tower and courtyard entrance, and explained his techniques.
The artists are eligible to enter work they produced that day for possible selection for the annual Gallery North “Local Color” exhibition (November 4-26), which this year will focus on the Vanderbilt.
