Live Music, Holiday and New Laser-Light Shows
The Suffolk County Vanderbilt Museum’s Reichert Planetarium offers a lot to see and hear during December. Live chamber music, a planetarium show about holiday traditions, plus new laser-light shows in the full-dome theater.

Season of Light explores the reasons humans are so fascinated with lighting up their lives during the December holiday season. It’s an exploration of the astronomical meanings behind seasonal traditions, including the “Star over Bethlehem.”
This presentation traces the history and development of many of the world’s most endearing holiday customs, all of which involve lighting up the winter season.
Traditions include the burning Yule log, sparkling Christmas tree lights and candles in windows, as well as the lighting of luminarias in the American Southwest and the traditional ritual of the Hanukkah menorah.
Long Island Chamber Music
Performing live on Friday, December 16, at 6:00 pm
Enjoy a live performance by a string quartet under the stars of the Reichert Planetarium.
Talented musicians from Long Island Chamber Music will play a selection of pieces composed by Bach, Ravel, Sibelius, and more. Beautiful panoramic views of the stars projected onto the 60-foot planetarium dome will complement the music.
The Reichert Planetarium is proud to offer an exciting and different way to be festive during the Holiday season! This popular program features a mix of everyone’s favorite holiday music, from the classical to the modern, all set to fantastic laser lights.
This festive laser show is low-intensity, making it appropriate for family members of all ages. Laser Holiday is a fun experience for everyone.
The setlist includes: Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer, Winter Wonderland, Deck the Halls, Jingle Bell Rock, White Christmas, Rockin’ Around the Christmas Tree, Frosty the Snowman, the Carol of the Bells, All I Want for Christmas is You, We Wish You a Merry Christmas, and more.
The Planetarium will show two new shows – Laser Michael Jackson and Laser Prince.
Prince reshaped the music scene with his imaginative blend of genres. Celebrate his musical legacy with this laser tribute. Songs include 1999, I Wanna Be Your Lover, Raspberry Beret, Purple Rain, and more.
The King of Pop’s timeless hits and amazing musical career live on in this thrilling laser show. Songs include The Way You Make Me Feel, ABS, Thriller, Billie Jean, Bad, and more.
