Special Encore Event in Vanderbilt Reichert Planetarium

Grab your robes and quidditch brooms…The Magical Universe of Harry Potter is coming back to the Vanderbilt Museum’s Reichert Planetarium!
The first Harry Potter event, on Saturday, March 9, sold out quickly. The Museum has scheduled an encore of this special evening for Saturday, April 6. The event will explore the many astronomical references in J.K. Rowling’s seven Harry Potter books, published between 1997 and 2007. Guests are encouraged to wear Harry Potter costumes.
Doors open at 6:00 p.m. and shows will begin at 7:00, 8:00 and 9:00 p.m.
Guests are encouraged to arrive 30 minutes before the show to enjoy all the surprises in the lobby, decorated to immerse you in the magic of Harry’s world.

The event will feature a live lecture by astronomer Charlie Eder. He will don a wizard’s hat and will explore the heavens above Hogwarts with participating Harry Potter fans. The audience will be divided into four Hogwarts “houses” and will compete to answer trivia questions. Prizes will be awarded.
At Hogwarts, Harry and his friends took the yearly Ordinary Wizard Level exam, which included plotting on a star map the positions of celestial bodies. In the evening’s “muggle-friendly” astronomy class, participants will learn how Rowling’s characters and events take their origins from the stars and constellations.
“From the bright star Sirius in the constellation Canis Major, known as the Big Dog, to the stars Regulus and Bellatrix, the night sky is filled with your favorite, and least favorite, Harry Potter characters,” Eder said. He added that guests will discover other wonders in the stars: dragons, centaurs, moon phases as they relate to werewolves, and the Witch Head and Witch’s Broom nebulae.
