Neal Stuart and The Empire State will celebrate the much-loved music of Johnny Maestro on Sunday, October 15, from 7 to 8:30 p.m. in the Vanderbilt Reichert Planetarium.

Maestro (1939-2010), lead singer for the Crests, the Del-Satins and, eventually, the Brooklyn Bridge, recorded rock ’n’ roll hits that became classics, such as “Sixteen Candles” and “The Worst That Could Happen.” The Brooklyn Bridge’s 1968 performance on the popular Ed Sullivan television variety show launched its career.

The Empire State, a collaboration of veteran New York musicians of the 1960s through the 1990s music scene, features current and former members of well-known regional groups.
Stuart has performed professionally for five decades, starting in the early 1960s as one of the lead vocalists of a well-known Bronx, N.Y., acapella group, The Zirkons. He also has sung with various Long Island groups and has appeared in many solo shows throughout the tri-state area. His repertoire, sung in his renowned bel canto style, includes “Sincerely,” “Gee,” “But I’d Give the World” and his signature song, “Unchained Melody.”
