‘Astronomy in the Sun’ Workshops, Grades 3-12

‘Astronomy in the Sun’ Workshops, Grades 3-12 The Vanderbilt Museum Education Department will offer the newest program in its STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics) curriculum, Astronomy in the Sun, during July and August.

The intriguing, creative, one-day workshops, for grades 3-12, will be taught by Vanderbilt astronomy educator Roger Ledgister, who earned a B.A. degree in physics and astronomy from Oberlin College and a Master’s degree in learning, media and technology from the University of Massachusetts Amherst

Workshops will meet from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Fee: $25, and $22.50 for Members. Students are encouraged to bring lunch.

Grades 3-7

Tuesdays, July 3 through August 28

Learn about the Sun, Moon and Solar System. Make a model Solar System and learn how energy from the sun turns into food. Learn about the life cycle of the Stars in an included Planetarium Show. Included: Safe daytime observations with telescope and solar telescope.

Grades 8-12

Thursdays, July 5 through August 30

Learn about the science of sunlight. Find out how our Universe fits together and build a scale model of the entire known Universe. Learn the basics of Black Holes in an included Planetarium Show. Safe observations with a solar telescope.
