April 6-10: Kids’ Creative Science and Art Workshops

School Spring Break, Week of April 6-10

When school is out for spring break, the week of April 6-10, 2015, kids can have creative fun at the Suffolk County Vanderbilt Museum’s workshops. Programs are offered in the Vanderbilt Education Center, located in the museum at 180 Little Neck Road, Centerport, NY.

Programs for Kindergarten through Grade 4 

10 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., bring lunch. Fee: $30 / $27 members.

Monday, April 6: Sundials

Visit the estate gardens, learn how ancient Egyptians measured time, and make your own working sundial.

Tuesday, April 7: Mixed Media Collage

Visit the Marine Museum and learn about the anatomy of whales, fish, sea turtles and sharks. Examine preserved specimens and create a unique piece of art using a variety of mediums.

Thursday, April 9: Mummy Mask

Learn about life in ancient Egypt and the art and science of making mummies, then create a mummy mask that rivals any Pharaoh’s.

Programs for Preschool children 

Wednesday, April 8: Butterfly Lifecycle Mobile
Children ages 3 – 5 with an adult, 10 to 11:30 a.m., Fee: $20 / $18 members.

Explore the insect collection and have fun dressing up to learn about the anatomy of a butterfly and moth

Wednesday, April 22: Earth Day Celebration

Recycled Art – Bottlenose Dolphin Planter
Preschool children with an adult, 10 to 11:30 a.m. Fee: $20 / $18 members.

Learn about the importance of re-purposing plastic containers and make a planter for some flower seeds.

Cancellation policy: The Museum reserves the right to cancel any workshop that does not meet minimum enrollment requirements.  Refunds will be issued up to 7 days before the start of a workshop for a cancellation made by the registrant.
