Vanderbilt Workshops Continue through December

Children in Pre-K through Grade 5 can learn, create and have fun in late-fall workshops offered by the Learning Center at the Suffolk County Vanderbilt Museum. Sponsored by Northwell Health. The Center is located on the Museum grounds at 180 Little Neck Road, Centerport, NY 11721.
Parents can sign up for sessions that run through December 28. All workshops, unless otherwise indicated, are from 10 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. Fee: $20 / $18 members.

The Vanderbilt will offer a free all-day (12:00 to 4:00) event for the whole family on Friday and Saturday, November 23-24. On those days, a Museum educator will be on hand all day in the Memorial Wing with preserved specimens for examination. (Free with admission. General museum admission: $8 for adults, $7 for students with ID and seniors 62 and older, and $5 for children 12 and under.)

Beneath the Waves
Explore the seas with Mr. V! We’ll learn about the diversity of life beneath the waves, examine preserved specimens, and make a marine invertebrate pillow.

Winter Solstice and Glowing Lanterns
In this workshop we’ll learn about the reason days are shorter in winter, observe the sun with a specialized telescope, and make lanterns using re-purposed materials.

Animals at Night and Diorama
Explore the collections, learn how wildlife adapts to less sunlight, and make our own miniature glow-in-the-dark diorama.

Starry Night Snow Globe
In this workshop we will visit the wildlife dioramas, learn how animals adapt to less sunlight, and make a twinkling snow globe.
