Children’s Workshops Celebrate Winter Solstice

 

The Vanderbilt Museum is offering creative workshops for children during the week between Christmas and New Year’s Eve. Workshops are given in the Vanderbilt Education Center at the museum, 180 Little Neck Road, Centerport, N.Y.

Vanderbilt educators take children through the museum’s wildlife collections and dioramas as inspiration for hands-on projects.

Workshops will be offered on December 27, 28 and 29, from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. Fee: $20 / $18 for Members. If you register before December 6, the fee is $15 / $13 for Members.

Schedule:

Wednesday, December 27, Grades K-4
Lanterns – Visit the decorated Vanderbilt Mansion and make a lantern to light as winter days turn cold and dark.

Thursday, December 28, grades K-4
Animals at Night – Explore the collections, learn how wildlife adapts to less sunlight, and make your own miniature glow-in-the-dark diorama.

Friday, December 29, pre-school children with an adult
Starry Bear Snow Globe – Visit the wildlife dioramas and make a twinkling snow globe.
