It’s time again for meteor showers. This month, the Leonids will streak across the heavens. Look for them between midnight and dawn, early on the mornings of November 17 and 18. The peak show is predicted for the pre-dawn hours of Wednesday, November 18.
The Leonids occur when Earth crosses the orbital path of Comet Tempel-Tuttle. Like all comets, when it enters the atmosphere it throws off debris, which vaporizes, creating meteor showers.
While these dazzling light shows should be visible across the sky, start by looking slightly eastward. Astronomers say the best way to watch is to bundle up, lie on your back, and wait for the show to begin.
