April School Break: Workshops for Children

For Pre-K through Grade 4

The Vanderbilt Education Center has planned three creative workshops for children on April 2, 3 and 4. Workshops are given in the Vanderbilt Education Center at the museum, 180 Little Neck Road, Centerport, N.Y.

Vanderbilt educators take children through the museum’s collections of birds, insects and cultural artifacts, and wildlife dioramas, to inspire children hands-on creative projects.

Workshops will be offered each day from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. Fee: $20 / $18 for Members. Workshops require advanced registration. Please call 631-854-5539 to register, and for more information.

Monday, April 2

Nature & Collections Walk and Journal
Grades K-4

Take a walk through the gardens and natural history collections and make a journal for your scientific drawings and observations.

Tuesday, April 3

Deep Blue Sea and Plastic Bottle “Koinobori”
Grades K-4

Explore the marine collections and make a “flying fish” windsock inspired by the Japanese Koinobori.

Wednesday, April 4

Wings of Wonder and Butterfly Lifecycle Mobile
Preschool children ages 3 and 4, with adult

Dress up like a butterfly and moth to compare attributes, go on a butterfly “hunt” and make a mobile explaining the life cycle of lepidoptera.
